Macduff 2012

Cask Type - PX Hogshead

Strength 64.5%

Colour - Vibrant ruby gold

Aromas - Waves of raisins, fresh figs and caramel, followed up with creamy marzipan, beeswax and old-school furniture polish. The merest hint of freshly picked strawberries on a crisp Summer’s morning. With water, there is lashings of iced Camp Coffee, with more fruity raisins, figs and beeswax polish

Taste - Extremely round and mouth-filling, bursting with more fruit from the rich Pedro Ximénez-soaked oak staves. Plums, blackcurrants, black cherries and strawberries compete for dominance in this swirling maelstrom of rich dark chocolate and heather honey. With water a Pina Colada rears it’s head from the cacophony of the fruit purée and is joined by a spike of sweet lemon and Soor Plooms.

So often destined for blend, the art of the Distiller and Cooper have come together to showcase this often overlooked Highland Single Malt.

Tasting notes by Scotland’s other Bard, Jim McEwan MBE;

Aromas - Considering the high strength this bouquet is fresh, malty and absolutely delightful. Then the raisin/prune notes evolve and the glycerine works beautifully with the crisp sweetness of the malt. It’s a disarming bouquet with a hint of the marine freshness underpinning the rich fruit overture that only PX can provide.

Taste - It’s a compelling combination of oak, plump sweet grapes, a malty crispness and a flash of salted caramel. It’s at mid palate that the sweet fruitiness really comes alive working beautifully in a disarming, inviting and estery flavour of rich long aged sherry held in a cradle of Spanish oak.

It’s a rare and beautiful spirit, Spain & Scotland in total harmony, passion and pride and a team of dedicated Distillers who know their craft well.
