Port Charlotte 9.2 16-year old, 1st fill Vosne Romanee barrique

Port Charlotte 9.2

Distilled on 26th October 2007 this whisky spent its whole 16-year life maturing in cask #5, maturation taking place in a 1st fill Vosne Romanee barrique.

The small commune of Vosne-Romanée is the Côte de Nuits’ region, producing the finest and most expensive Pinot Noir wines in the world, and boasting no fewer than eight Grand Cru vineyards. Noted for its extraordinary intensity of fruit which manages magically to combine power and finesse with extraordinary depth and richness.

Bottled in January 2024 as Release 9.2 of the Jim McEwan Signature Collection, like all bottlings within the collection, it was bottled un-chill filtered, with no added colour and at natural cask strength of 62.4% (Jim would have it no other way!), it yielded only 258 bottles.

Tasting notes from Jim McEwan MBE

Body - Strong & full of Islay character that works beautifully with the Vosne Romanee, a wonderful rare combination that is in its prime.

Aromas - The peat smoke, the fruit, the oak, the Atlantic Ocean, the traditional distillation style since 1881 and its created by real people who know exactly what the standard required is. The notes from the Barrique work wonderfully with the peat smoke creating a unique Islay Hebridean spirit matured full term a stones throw from the sea.

Palate - Its a gorgeous palate experience and at 62.4% the smoke & the sea work in harmony encapsulated in a halo of the Vosne Romanee Barrique. Its a unique taste experience. The malted barley flavours are to the fore throughout.
