we are delighted to bottle this exceptional 2010 Bruichladdich Banyul cask from Jim’s private stock. It seemed fitting to celebrate Jim’s 58 years in the business with a bottling of his beloved Bruichladdich in one of the remarkable wine casks that were a cornerstone of his work. Hand picked by Jim this is sure to be a bottling to be remembered.
Bottled from a first fill Banyul (the red wine equivalent of sauternes) barrique, cask #2319 yielded 314 bottles at 55.9%, it has been bottled non-chill filtered with no added colour (of course!).
Tasting notes from Jim McEwan;
Colour - Charming Medium Amber. Harvest Gold
Body - Medium and super smooth. The French oak has performed beautifully
Nose - Opens superbly on a harmony of soft fruit and coastal wild flowers. With heather bloom in August, warm sand blowing in on Western winds, it’s a joy to behold. A classic Bruichladdich loving “The French connection” with its history of being rather special!
The remarkable Islander is in dreamland. The natural fruitiness of the Bruichladdich spirit unpeated, distilled slowly and matured a stone’s throw from the Atlantic Ocean and having had a ten-year relationship with this amazing cask makes this spirit rather special.
The overture from the wine is blowing in the wind in absolute harmony with the character of Islay and its location, people and its history of distillation.
A dram to share or a dram to enjoy alone, this gentle Islander makes no judgements. Enjoy, and let the cares of tomorrow wait until this day is done!!
Not only will this bottling celebrate the remarkable career but will give back to the island so important to Jim and his family. From each bottle sold £50 will be donated to Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance.
Funded solely from donations their work is a literal life line to Islay, Jura and the other remote regions of Scotland. Personally chosen by Jim & Barbara McEwan we are delighted to support this extremely worthy cause.
