The 17th release from Dramfool is a 10 year old Islay Single Malt.
Bourbon-matured for 8 years and then transferred to a fresh Oloroso Sherry Hogshead to mature for a further 2 years. Half the cask was bottled last year at 9 years old and the remainder has just been bottled this year at 10 years old to give an interesting comparison of how another year maturing in an Oloroso cask influenced the whisky.
The whisky was bottled un-chill-filtered at cask strength of 57.5% and 175 bottles were filled.
Nose neat: Huge amount of sherry and chocolate, leather with Muscovado sugar, dark treacle. There is also a citric acidity and smoky toffee.
Taste neat: Lots of Pedro Ximinez Sherry surprisingly, chocolate, mocha and smoke. Peat smoked teacle toffee! Dried fruits, Christmas cake with black cherries.
Nose diluted: Pedro Ximinez Sherry, dark fruits, chocolate, smoke, dark peat, treacle toffee, furniture polish, grape skins and black cherries.
Taste diluted: Still lots of sherry, chocolate, christmas cake with a whiff of peat smoke and the merest hint of Germolene.
This whisky won Silver in the Islay category at UISGE 2019 in Helsinki!
