6.1 Bruichladdich 2008 1st White Wine Barrique, 14 years old, 56.5%
Distilled on 22nd September 2008 this whisky spent its whole 14-year life maturing in cask #2513. This maturation took place in a 1st fill Grenache Blanc Barrique.
Bottled in February 2023 as Release 6.1 of the Jim McEwan Signature Collection, like all bottlings within the collection, it was bottled un-chill filtered, with no added colour, and at natural cask strength of 56.5% (as we always say, Jim would have it no other way!), it yielded only 215 bottles.
Tasting notes from Jim McEwan MBE
Aromas - Unmistakably Islay with that marine freshness. Little hints of heather in bloom merge beautifully with the sweetness of the toasted barley, and then the gentle notes of grapes and mellow oak rise in harmony complimented by background notes of Atlantic breeze evokes the senses in a way few others do.
Palate - Super smooth with a texture that lingers long on the taste buds. The wine notes merge beautifully with crispy sweetness of the kiln dried barley and the multi-layered flavours are held in a ‘Hebridean Halo’ of all that makes Islay maturation unique. The spirit is supple, sweet and succulent and hand crafted by a team of dedicated distillers who distil in the way their forefathers did before them.
Finish - Lingers long and gentle with a sweet fruity and malty mouthfeel that makes you reach for the bottle!
