The 11th release from Dramfool is a 9 year old Islay Single Malt.

Bourbon-matured for 8 years and then transferred to a fresh Oloroso Sherry Hogshead to mature for a further year. Half the cask has been bottled at 9 years old and the remainder will be bottled next year at 10 years old to give an interesting comparison of how another year maturing in an Oloroso cask will influence the whisky.

The whisky was bottled un-chill-filtered at cask strength of 58.4% and 150 bottles were drawn from the cask this time.

Tasting notes

Nose neat: Sweet and peaty with a whiff of smoke from burnt twigs. Quite briny with coal tar soap, Germolene, liquorice sticks, black cherries and macerated raisins

Taste neat: Lots of peat smoke with more burnt twigs, sherry, rich toffee, muscovado sugar, Bazooka Joes, boiled travel sweets (the darker fruits) and beach BBQ'd pork.

Nose diluted: Much more sherry and heavy rich toffee. Smoked toffee!? Fainter Germolene, Turkish Delight, with tinned black cherries, seaweed and saddle leather.

Taste diluted: Peat smoke, Germolene, toffee, sherry, coffee, heather honey and travel sweets. Long sweet finish with smoke, pencil sharpenings, toffee and heather honey.
