Distilled on 12th June 2010 this whisky spent its whole 12-year life maturing in cask #4525. This maturation took place in a 1st fill bourbon cask from an unknown American Distillery. Peated to a more delicate - than some Octomore but still outrageous to many others - 96.9PPM it is classic of this rare spirit.
Bottled in July 2022 as the final Journey’s End release, like all bottlings within the collection, it was bottled un-chill filtered, with no added colour, and at natural cask strength of 58.6% (as we always say, Jim would have it no other way!), it yielded only 222 bottles.
Tasting notes from Jim McEwan;
Colour - Stunning Medium Amber/ Honey
Aromas - It’s the smoke, the oak, the Ocean, the Islay grown barley, the understated power that makes nosing this spirit a joy to behold. You are transported to Islay immediately, welcome to my homeland! It opens on a marine freshness in harmony with the sweetness of toasted barley and just a hint of spice from the bourbon residue in the oak. This is then followed by the peat smoke which underlines the Islay pedigree but does not dominate the sweetness of the barley. The harmony is good!
Taste - Wow! it’s a unique taste sensation. The peat smoke, the maltiness, the oak sugars, a seductive nuttiness, a kick of bourbon from a past life with the addition of a little water a marmalade sweetness evolves which is beautiful and in harmony with the marine influence which adds an intriguing twist to the taste buds. It’s a gentle giant who is like no other. Enjoy your time in the company of a true spirit of Islay, handcrafted by a dedicated team of Islanders who are the main components in bringing this amazing spirit to life.
