Dramfool's Gold : Red Bag 20 years old

Dramfool's Gold : Red Bag 20 years old

from £24.58

We are delighted to have our third edition of the Dramfool’s Gold release finally ready for the world to enjoy. Finished in a first-fill Oloroso sherry hogshead for 2 years after over 17 years in bourbon followed by a short 6 month stint in a Port barrique, a triple-matured Red Bag!

We have said many times we will save the ultimate status we can give of a Dramfool’s Gold to only the finest casks we have, well in this case it might just be the finest whisky we have released!

This whisky’s journey took some time to mature- pun intended! We bought this cask along with two sisters (both now released and enjoyed at 16 and 17 years old) and thought lets try something a bit different, a gamble with whisky of such age. The first cask it was destined for got lost (well used elsewhere, but that’s another tale) and it’s replacement Port barrique did not have the desired impact we were looking for. This cask was supplied as compensation. All we can say is WOW! Were we very HEAVILY compensated, it is beyond words.

The impact the cask has played in its 2-year finish has been huge. Not overpowering the whisky, not just for colour and not just to make it different to the previous two. The cask has done what only a truly exceptional cask can, integrate with the spirt, add depth, flavour and I could go on.

It might just be one of the finest Redbags we have ever tasted, but we will let you decide on that. To prove a point, on a recent in person tasting our guests tried a small sample and snapped up 36 bottles there and then!

We bought the cask a good number of years ago, and what now looks a fair price so really wanted to pass this value on, an exceptional dram and we hope you will agree a fair price (not the £500 a bottle was suggested to Colin on Islay!!)

Tasting notes by Dramfool :

Nose Neat – Bursting with sherry and red fruits, smoky bacon crisps, seaweed, brine and dark fruits.

Taste Neat – The flavour just explodes in your mouth, so many layers of dark fruit, peat embers, smoky bacon crisps, distant seashore barbeques. The taste goes on and on.

Nose Diluted – More red fruits are released with more delicate peat smoke and bonfires.

Taste Diluted – Cherries, sultanas, figs, prunes, blackcurrant cordial, salty meaty barbeques, seaweed on a hot beach. Fantastic!
