Mad Hut, 10 year old 1st fill Oloroso Barrique, cask 170

As part of a trilogy of our first releases from Mad Hut distillery (one for the wordsmiths) which sits in the heart of Speyside. Known for sherry cask matured whisky with slow and old fashioned production at its heart. 

Each whisky spent its first 8 years or so in a single bourbon barrel. However, for the last 20 months of its life was transferred to a hand chosen first fill Spanish 1st fill Oloroso Barrique.

This last 20 months has had huge impact on the spirit and the results are obvious to the eye and the palate!

Bottled at natural colour, strength of 57.1% and of course with no chill filtration, yielding 196 bottles.

Nose Neat – Chocolate, lots of dark fruit, Christmas cake, figs.

Taste Neat – Lots of sherry influence here! Christmas cake, plums, raisins, chocolate and caramel.

Nose Diluted – Dark fruits, more Christmas cake, Demerara sugar, treacle and toffee.

Taste Diluted – Christmas cake, dark fruits, treacle toffee, hint of coffee.
