Mad Hut, 10 year old 1st fill Vino de Naranja Barrique, cask 169

As part of a trilogy of our first releases from Mad Hut distillery (one for the wordsmiths) which sits in the heart of Speyside. Known for sherry cask matured whisky with slow and old fashioned production at its heart.

Each whisky spent its first 8 years or so in a single bourbon barrel. However, for the last 20 months of its life was transferred to a hand chosen first fill Spanish 1st fill Vino de Naranja Barrique – a Spanish Orange Wine – a first for us.

This last 20 months has had huge impact on the spirit and the results are obvious to the eye and the palate! 

Bottled at natural colour, strength of 55.3% and of course with no chill filtration, yielding 219 bottles.

Tasting notes by Dramfool

Nose Neat – Surprising sherry influence, hint of orange, and raisins and dark fruits.

Taste Neat – Very rich with toffee, caramel, stewed plums, orange peel, black cherries.

Nose Diluted – Lots more of the dark fruit notes come through with a hint of orange rind.

Taste Diluted – Stewed plums, black cherries, raisins, hint of banana, orange peel.
