Mad Hut, 10 year old 1st fill Pedro Ximénez Barrique, cask 172

As part of a trilogy of our first releases from Mad Hut distillery (one for the wordsmiths) which sits in the heart of Speyside. Known for sherry cask matured whisky with slow and old fashioned production at its heart. 

Each whisky spent its first 8 years or so in a single bourbon barrel. However, for the last 20 months of its life was transferred to a hand chosen first fill Spanish 1st fill Pedro Ximénez Barrique. 

This last 20 months has had huge impact on the spirit and the results are obvious to the eye and the palate! 

Bottled at natural colour, strength of 54% and of course with no chill filtration, yielding 223 bottles.

Tasting notes by Dramfool

Nose Neat – Coffee and chocolate, lots of PX sweetness, rich with chocolate liqueurs, prunes, figs and molasses.

Taste Neat – Boom! A PX Beast! Bursting with PX sweetness, loads of heavy coffee and dark chocolate notes.

Nose Diluted – Treacle toffee, chocolate, toffee, very sweet dark fruits.

Taste Diluted – More coffee, dark chocolate and lighter red fruits such as cherries and also fresh figs.
