Dramfool’s journey in whisky can be seen in the legacy of the bottlings we have been so proud to discover and share with likeminded whisky fans the world over. From young fresh spirit to five decade old whisky from a closed distillery, each of these bottlings is one we are proud to have put our name to.
The mantra from the beginning has guided us through all these bottles, and of course continues to do so, ‘we will only bottle whisky that I like’. This becomes even more important as we continue expand this journey and explore new factettes of whisky.
From our core range of Dramfool and Dramfool’s Middle Cut we have showcased whisky from all over Scotland in a variety of cask types.
The recent release of Dramfool’s Gold, bringing some of the finest whiskies we have that step above and beyond what we expect to see in an expression. These have been amazing received with only one or two planned annually.
Of course the highlight of our first decade in business was ‘The Jim McEwan Signature Collection’ the coming together of two men with a passion for Islay and Bruichladdich’s finest output - Jim McEwan (a legend who needs no introduction) and Dramfool’s Bruce Farquhar.
It became an archive of not just the production of Bruichladdich, by its most famous son, but of the journey the distillery took with experimentation and variety. Only possible with foresight and creative control that McEwan was given. The Signature Collection features expressions from the non-peated Bruichladdich, traditionally peated Port Charlotte and the world’s most heavily peated malt Octomore. As commented by Dave Broom on Jim McEwan’s retirement, his output was an ‘innovative and thought provoking portfolio of single malts that challenged previous perceptions in the category’.
